Full day comfort walking with Sunnystep

I never really like wear shoes in Singapore, I actually owned a pair of “expensive” flip flops which is my go-to pair with great support,  however it tends to expand after prolonged wearing. The pair has become very ill fit and loose and has created immense pain on my feet especially after a long day of walking. I can no longer wear my favourite pair of flip flops but wear a pair of covered shoes for all-around support especially for a long day of walking etc else I will end up limping!

I am so happy to have found a local brand Sunnystep which designs shoes to minimise stress on the feet and the body. It comes with a proprietary arch support, blister-free uppers and a wider front that caters to Asian foot shapes. Their designs are so gender neutral I can even have a matchy pair with my husband!

I was at their ION outlet to try on my first pair of Sunny Step. I chose the best seller Balance Runner in blush (I am a pink person and this hue does not scream pink loudly and can easily match any outfit) , in fact it comes in so many colours (some of which are limited edition colours) it is so hard to choose – happy problem. Those who does not like shoe laces, you can opt for Balance Walker . The Men Collection also spot the same designs with bigger fittings.

At first sight

It has a clean and versatile look, not too overly casual, easily used for office on dress down Friday, doesn’t spot a “sport shoe” look, so easily match with skirt and dresses too –  making this a perfect shoe for travel as 1 pair of shoes matches with all attire!

Using it

I wore it the minute I got it from the store, when I first tried the pair, it felt so light, almost weightless and buttery soft and flexible uppers that adapt to different foot shapes making it so comfy to wear! Comes with a wider room for the toes to wriggle around , in fact I was advised to take a size up for this purpose!

Loving it

With all new shoes, often we worry about blisters , thanks to the extra velvet cushioning at the heels , their shoes are blister-free. And now to the actual business why is this most comfortable walking shoes in Singapore for you to do 10,000+ every day!

The secret is in the stable arch support that will not sink over time and hence provide long lasting support and anti shock gel cushioning at the heels and the ball of the foot for the utmost support. This is coupled by the fact that it is super light weight – making this the perfect pair of walking shoes!

Besides this, it is also water-resistant and easy to clean , with quick drying especially in our rainy weather! You don’t need to wear wet shoes if you are accidentally caught in the rain!

My only regret was why didn’t I get this earlier for my US trip where I easily clock 10,000 every day especially in the 9 days I was at the theme park! I was using my regular running shoes, and it doesn’t look half as nice as this!

Good things must share, so I manage to get a code EIMEI8OFF for $8 off with minimum purchase of $125 at store or online. Do remember quote EIMEI8OFF to the sales rep when they are processing your purchase or online during checkout.

If it’s your first time buying, do get the correct sizing in store with the help of the friendly assistants, there are a total of 13 stores located all around Singapore , see the list of store location from here  These are the photos from the ION stores which was where I got my pair!

I

In fact, I am eyeing on a pair for my husband as his work shoes as he was also looking for a super comfortable pair of shoes for every day work and they have darker colour almost like office dress shoes too – you can’t tell the difference!

Heart Studio 2022- final project “I Shield You”

I can’t believe that another year with Heart Studio has gone by and we are in our final project/artwork for the year! Time really flies when the child is having fun, I can’t believe he has completed a full year with Heart Studio in 2022 and how much he has grown in his technical aspects and as well as his creativity and imagination. Another interesting theme to end the year is “I Shield You”  inspired by the different types of shield form and design.

Small C chose the same colour scheme as the teacher’s sample but he wanted a very medieval feel to it, so he added a dragon in the centre. After sketching the design on the project, he went on to cut the shape from cardboard and paint the background. In week two, small C drew the finer details and added more colours and shades to the dragon and the shield.

In week 3, the task to add the middle patch of yellow and not to affecting the already coloured layers and dragon. Final week is to add more details to the shield and some shading to make the shield have some 3D effect and the final art work make a perfect pretend play toy too! Doesn’t this shield make my little painter look just like a knight!

One thing I must commend is that flexibility of Heart Studio in term of class replacements, I had to end the term early as we are going on our vacation, so we did the final 4 classes for the final project in 2 weeks, so that the child does not miss out and still manage to complete the art work ahead of time. We can’t wait to start the new year with Heart Studio and to see all the exciting themes for the kids to indulge in!

Halley’s Pico Power of 3 Review – Rejuvenate your skin at Halley Medical Aesthetic’s – 1 month update with video review

1 month update

I was back at Halley Medical Aesthetic for 1 month update after my first Halley’s Pico Power of 3   last month and I am impressed with result after just 1 treatment.  The clearest differences are my pigmentation spots on both my checks. Pigmentation spot on the side of the right cheek has significantly lightened , likewise, pigmentation spot on the side of the left cheek has significantly lightened,. Overall I feel that my skin is brighter and have a more even skin tone. I have gone for my second laser which is even more intense with a bit more down time, but the results quite immediate, as my hubby recently touched my face and went, how come your face so smooth! That’s like the best compliment in a long while!

After my impressive results  with Halley Medical Aesthetic’s Ultherapy a few months back (review here) I am back for my virgin laser treatment. I have friends who have raved about their laser treatments and even stop doing facial as laser treatments achieve a far better results than regular facial. As I age, my top 3 worries are pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, even with my regular facial, these are getting more apparent.  Halley’s Pico Power of 3 is able to address all my concerns and more! There are many laser treatments out in the market but I am sold by  Halley’s Pico Power of 3  as it combines the best of different laser machines to achieve optimum results.

What is Halley’s Pico Power of 3?

Halley’s Pico Power of 3 is a pigmentation buster and rejuvenation laser programme that combines the new Fotona StarWalker PQX Pico Laser with the PicoSure Laser for a more customisable, comprehensive, and effective, uniquely Halley’s treatment experience.

Benefits of Halley’s Pico Power of 3 Laser Programme
• Remove pigmentation (melasma, freckles, and sunspots)
• Lighten acne scars and blemishes
• Reduce wrinkles and fine lines
• Improve skin tone and texture
• Rejuvenate the skin

The new Fotona StarWalker PQX Pico Laser features both short and long laser wavelengths at 532nm and 1064nm respectively, and it is combined with PicoSure Laser, which treats the skin at 755nm. The three different wavelengths from both machines work together to target your skin concerns.

532nm: Great for skin concerns like freckles and sunspots.
755nm: Rejuvenates the skin and removes fine lines and targets unwanted pigmentations on our skin. It leaves the skin refreshed, more elastic, and with fewer visible wrinkles and scars.
1064nm: This is a longer laser wavelength that can penetrate the skin deeper to reach deeper-lying pigments. It is also gentle enough for most delicate and Asian skin types.

Consultation

As this is my second aesthetic treatment with Dr Mark Lim, I totally comfortable and trust him especially after my very impressive results post Ultherapy treatment which he did for me  a few months back! Dr. Mark Lim created a customised regime for me under Halley’s Pico Power of 3 laser programme that combines both lasers to specifically address my skin concerns upon consultation and skin analysis.

Treatment

Numbing cream is applied to the treatment area before the procedure to make the treatment more comfortable. After 20 minutes of numbing cream,  the treatment begins using  a combination of 2 laser machines namely Fotona StarWalker PQX Pico Laser with the Cynosure PicoSure Laser.  The overall feeling feels like insect bites, or rubber band snapping on my skin, but its very fleeting as it will just go off as soon as the laser goes to another treatment area. After a while, I was accustomed to the sensation and didn’t feel much thereafter, completely relaxed as Dr Lim finished the entire area of my face – including on the lips, under eyes which are the thinnest areas! Cool air was also blown towards the treatment area during the process to reduce the discomfort during the treatment. My treatment took around 20 minutes to complete (typical laser treatment will range from 15 to 30 minutes)

Laser treatments begin using a combination of 2 laser machines to obtain both short and long laser wavelengths

Post Treatment

There is ZERO downtime for me, I do know of some will have redness on the face, but for myself I hardly had that even right after the treatment (my skin is really not the sensitive kind) You can add on a  Cooling Mask ($38) which is infused with chamomile, which will help soothe and calm the skin after the Pico Power of 3 laser treatment which is highly recommended. It also serves to hydrate and reduce the redness on the skin. I was given a mild steroid cream to be applied for the next few day. There is little post treatment care – in fact to put on sunscreen  and stay away from excessive sun exposure for the next few days. Optimal results are expected in about 1 to 2 weeks!

Video review

In fact I have booked another session 1 week next month before my travel so that I will look good in my travel photos!

I’ll update this post with my results. Can’t wait to share my 1-month results with you. Meantime, check out their website on treatments for mature skin for my age group 40s

Heart Studio – Painting My Pepette Around Europe

Inspired by a story Painting Pepette by Linda Ravin Lodding, this was the theme of this term’s art work.  For those who are not familiar with the story, it follows the story of Josette when she decides that her stuffed-animal rabbit Pepette needs a portrait of her own after seeing all the fine portraits of her family in her house in Paris. The two of them set off for Montmartre, the art center of 1920s Paris, to seek out an artist to paint Pepette’s portrait. They encounter Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Marc Chagall, and Henri Matisse, who all try their hand at capturing the rabbit in their different styles of painting.

The kids had to choose the different famous places in Europe to paint their favourite soft toy at the chosen place. Small C chose the Eiffel Tower and a dinosaur. Next, they have to decide between painting in impressionistic or representational style.  Small C was taught how to paint with short strokes and opposing strokes too – which is the style of impressionism.

They also have to outline their artwork in a frame, some inspirations were given to the kids which frame they want to outline their painting.  For the final week is the refinement of the smaller details – dinosaur’s features, details to Eiffel Tower , shadow and backdrop! Probably the first time we are doing an artwork inspired by a book about painting and artists – so much fun and definitely inspired the wanderlust in us!

Neuromath – Review of Pattern Thinker Box 1

Did you know that a child can be spend endless hours in doing math questions and assessment books, but all the efforts are not reflected in the results?

Recognising that,  NeuroMath Singapore has developed a home based programme Pattern Thinkers, where learners can develop 6 key habits of mind for success in their learning which covers:

1. Permutations
2. Consecutive Numbers
3. Assumption
4. Logical Deduction
5. Pattern Sequences
6. Equations

Their method is not about drilling the syllabus  or rote learning but Norman Tien, the founder of  NeuroMath Singapore explained what are the right ways to teach our kids Math. You can learn more from the monthly webinar organised by them.

I was introduced to << Pattern Thinkers >> a Home-based Training Programme (suitable for 7 to 10yo) which focuses on Critical and Inventive Thinking in Patterns for problem solving , different from our math text book or assessment books. Their method helps to develop and strengthen the cognitive foundation to tackle these mathematical problems which is beneficial in the long run especially for higher order thinking questions.

I was initially skeptical about home based programme as I may not have the time nor ability , however my fears are unfounded as the lesson video are pre-recorded, and you can do it own time own target. We received box 1,which contains resources such as colourful chips, a xylophone and an activity book to guide the child during the prerecorded video.   Whenever small C is free, he will log in and watch the video independently (all this skills of operating a laptop from HBL sessions) and then he is unable to follow grasp the logic or technique, I will try to support him a bit.

The recommendation is to do 1 lesson per week, and in a daily basis to practise what is learned and also improve on the speed, and finally record the video assignment.

Lesson 1
The introduction of 3×6 permutation with the used of colourful chips and a board. To kick start the lesson, small C has to list down all possible permutation of 5,6,7 and 8. Of course, he had listed it in random order and could not complete it as it is all so random (you can scroll till the end that he managed to understand achieve it under 3 minutes after the 4th lesson)

Lesson 2
To reinforce the earlier 3×6 permutation with a xylophone, the key is there is no previous pattern to follow, hence all is pure based on memory and logic –  its a great way to learn math through a learning aid such as the xylophone.

Lesson 3
This is a leap forward with 4×6 permutation, initially he struggled, but once he understood the “pattern” he is able to do it independently, now the aim is to do it as fast as he can, hopefully below 2 minute . We continued to use the colour chips as a visual aid to understand the permutation pattern more effectively!

Lesson 4
Besides reinforcing 4×6 permutations, lesson 4 also incorporated Origami into the lesson. Frankly. it was easy at the start but towards the end when small C gave up, myself as an adult also found it difficult to figure it out and had to replay the video a few times. Small C had no issue following the folding steps and also the initial parts to link it up but he fumbled at the final few steps and linking it up. So this is the only time I step in to help him.

A big STAR for completing box 1 too!

It has been a month working on Box 1 which has a total of 4 lessons – 1 week per lesson.  Small C is able to learn at his own timing and pace, there is no predetermined lesson timing per week, as these are prerecorded video. There is isnt much support from parents perspective except to submit the video assignment to Pattern Thinkers Team to go through and they will come back with feedback for the child.

Now that he has finally able to understand and list the 24 permutations , the next aim is to do it under 2 minutes , can’t wait for box 2 to learn another essential skill sets.

There is an upcoming webinar on 19 Nov 2022 2pm, for all readers and followers of mine, Neuromath Singapore has kindly offered a complimentary session for you instead of having to pay $19 (usual price).

Here is where Ginza Xiaoma comes in to make your dream of owning a Hermès come true without the additional unnecessary small purchases and waiting time at a Hermès store.

Newly opened in Singapore 8 months ago, and the 3rd outlet after Japan and Hong Kong , Ginza Xiaoma is Asia’s leading Hermès curator, collector, and reseller.

They are one of Asia’s most prestigious Hermès boutiques with their flagship store located at the
heart of Tokyo in Ginza. They specialize in Buying, Selling or Consigning, Sourcing and Appraising Hermès handbags and accessories. From sourcing and supplying the most iconic authentic Hermès handbags such as Birkin, Kelly and many more for an international elite clientele, in the thousands including celebrities, socialites, stylists and concierge services, who all attest to their commitment that each item they sell is authentic.

Each item is carefully authenticated and checked by their team of expert appraisers going through a triple quality control. One of their missions is to offer products that are of high investment value so the classic styling and high quality of Hermes bags make them timeless pieces that can be passed down to the next generation or sold at attractive prices in the active thriving resale market.

Dedicated to impeccable local talent and local service alike, Ginza Xiaoma has grown rapidly into the international market with their expansion to Hong Kong and now Singapore.

I had the opportunity to step foot into their latest outlet, a very spacious and cozy showroom right in the heart of Singapore, Orchard – Ngee Ann City.

This is their entrance of the boutique. Oh my! What a spacious and beautifully designed area. I love how when you walk in, you can see a big plasma TV screen which shows a walk-through of their company and I get to watch an office and boutique tour of their Japan HQ. Do you also know that the white “bags” you see on the wall are actually Hermes statues. So cute!

This is the highlight of the showroom and the reason why I am here. There is a big comfortable sofa for us guests to sit and chill and I was taking my time to check out their wide array of bags.

Another angle of their showroom

This is their café and bar area.

1st row left – Birkin 25 shadow 46 Ebene Swift priced at $55,800 SGD

1st row right – Birkin Shadow 6W Menthe Swift priced at $61,800 SGD

2nd row left – Under negotiation, I guess a customer has already reserved this.

2nd row right – Birkin 25 34 Fauve Barenia priced at $41,800 SGD

Top – Birkin 30 89 Nior Togo priced at $28,800 SGD

Bottom – Birkin 30 18 Eutope Epsom – $34,800 SGD

Top Left – Birkin 30 89 Nior Togo priced at $28,800 SGD

Bottom – Birkin 30 18 Eutope Epsom – $34,800 SGD

Top Right – Kelly Pochette Vert Anis Doblis suede priced at $29,800 SGD

Bottom Left – Kelly Pochette M9 MauveSylvestre Swift priced at $31,800 SGD

Bottom Right – Kelly Pochette 12 Nata Swift pried at $32,800 SGD

Now this is the highlight of the boutique, the one and only Holy Grail of Hermès bag!

The Kelly 35 Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile priced at $295,000 SGD and Kelly 28 Matte Niloticus Crocodile priced at $696,000!

Each item has been carefully stored, maintained even down to the handling, where the sales rep and client need to don on a pair of gloves if they wish to try on the handbags.

Claire, the sales representative was so knowledgeable from the get-go. Being someone who is not familiar with the range of Hermès bag, she introduced me to the classic and hot favourites especially for a newbie like me – Kelly 25, Birkin 30. Of course, I needed to know to get myself acquainted to the many discontinued designs and limited editions as I would not have an opportunity to see or own – the most expensive and the most coveted in store was the Crocodile Diamond-encrusted Himalaya Kelly 28 worth $696,000!

Me posing with the bag.

I really had an enjoyable session learning about  Hermès , like an introduction class to Hermès 101, there was no hard selling. I was also keen to know more about entry level Hermès handbags which I can potentially own and keep as an investment item as well.

Heart Studio Term 3 – Chinese Ming Vases

True story: My 3 kids age 7, 9 and 11, were trying to choose some art and craft to do at an event and one of which requires some amount of free hand drawing and painting. Quickly, my older 2 age 9 and 11 were intimidated to the extent that one of them told the organiser ” I am very bad at drawing!” (both do not atttend weekly art classes). Personally I do not think my 9 and 11 year are really bad at drawing just that they do not draw regularly and lack the confidence to do so hence before attempting to even start drawing they already gave up.

In contrast , small C my youngest, having attended a year of Heart Studio took on that craft which require drawing and painting with zero hesitation and shown utmost confidence he will be able draw and paint on it! He even said he in response to his sibling’s statement, ” I am very good at drawing!”  Such confidence from my youngest all thanks to his weekly classes in Heart Studio. On hindsight, I should have given my older kids the opportunity to attend weekly art classes when they were younger so that they will not be intimidated by the mere need to just draw/ paint based on imagination or even replicating  from a sample!  This confidence that small C had portrayed is also not due to his talent (frankly, I dont think he is very talented in drawing) but it was from the confidence he is able draw and paint from his weekly classes in Heart Studio.

Back to term 3 final project which is to explore Art on Chinese Ming Vases, interesting this is like the first Asia or Chinese art work, most of the time, we explore the works from Europe and also the West.

For the first week , the kids introduced to all the fun facts about Chinese Ming Vases , what they are made of, price, designs and motif on the vases. On their art project booklet, they will choose a main character be it a phoenix, dragon, flower as the centrepiece of the vase. Small C chose a phoenix. He drew the entire phoenix on his own with Teacher Pearl drawing her own version on the sideline. I must say he has drawn with 80% accuracy.

In the second and third week, they will transfer their sketches on to the art paper followed by gentle water colour painting replicating what we normally see on Chinese vases, the background and the branches coming out from the vase. Small C chose a soft purple hue for the back ground.

Finally to complete painting the finer details, to scrunch the sakura crepe flowers and glue them on the branches.

I believe this the first piece of art work which I feel is very Asian, very Chinese unlike the rest were more from Europe and the West! Another awesome piece from small C and most importantly I am most proud his utmost confidence in drawing and painting after attending weekly art classes with Heart Studio.

Heart Studio Term 3: Joan Miro and Abstract Art

I do not know who Joan Miro is but small C does all thanks to Heart Studio. As with all new art projects, the kids are firstly introduced to the theme and the facts surrounding the theme of the month. For this month, they learned about Joan Miro, where he was from and what he was famous for. The kids explored abstract art through the works of Joan Miro. It’s the first time small C is doing abstract art. Frankly  as an adult, I find it difficult to draw abstract art as I need a lot of creativity and out of the box thinking to sketch out something not in real life. However, for kids it seems quite a natural process for them , hence art classes are really a good outlet for them to nurture their creativity and imagination.

For the first week , the kids were shown some inspirations from Joan Miro works. The kids had to create imaginary animals from shapes on the art project booklet. I see that the kids including small C sketches so effortlessly , with lots of creativity and imagination. In the second and third week, they will transfer their sketches onto cardboard and paint them  – every component of their imaginary animal.  There is no hand holding, and the kids are free to decide on the colour, shape and size though the teacher may suggest more contrasting colours to make the artwork stand out.  Thereafter, the different components are cut out and the finer details are painted on the cutouts.

Finally is to assemble all the painted cutouts into a 3D model art piece! This is small C’s first abstract art work and he is able to turn his creative imagination into life and now it is proudly on display at his study corner at home. So glad there is always something new to explore and the world of art is indeed so vast and varied!

Honeypeachsg Bakery – the dreamiest cakes in Singapore

I have done a fair share of cake ordering as I have 4 kids especially in the earlier years I do spend time looking for unique and special cakes for every birthday celebration. I think I had ordered all possible versions – fondant, cream, pinata, pull apart cupcake, jelly cake , ice cream etc. And as I thought I have seen them all, I saw these trending dreamy cakes from Honeypeachsg Bakery

Established in 2019, Honeypeachsg Bakery is a boutique bakery by two passionate artisanal cake artists who believed in creating pretty yet tasty cakes. They limit the use of fondant decorations in their cakes (which I totally agree as I have not been ordering fondant cakes for long time) as it is quite wasteful and don’t come cheap. In exchange, they do a wide variety of cakes – floral, gender reveal, korean bento, wedding cakes, a cake for every occasion.

Design wise, they do a minimalist approach but their cakes are aesthetically designed just like the dreamy one I ordered. I have not seen anything quite like this before in my years of ordering cake, and I knew the perfect recipient for such a cake, myself! Yes I have shameless order my own birthday cake as it is too pretty to resist, I knew I had to have it for my birthday this year! In fact, there were so many dreamy cakes I wanted to order that I was spoilt for choice, it was a toss between White Swan and Fairies, I finally chose Fairies as it was in pink and adorned with pink roses! In fact, their best selling designs are FairiesMisty Butterflies and White Swan.

Ordering was also seamless via their website, and you can choose for pickup or delivery.

I ordered the 6 inch Fairies cake and it arrived in good order in this beautiful see-thru box.  Even before I unbox it , I can see how pretty and dreamy the cake is! All my favourite elements – roses, pink cut out butterfly and the dreamy tulle outlining the cake in my favourite flavour!

I also ordered 2 boxes of macarons as an add on as my kids love this sweet treat. They also have a range of desserts to order for sweet tooth like my kids such as  cupcakes, brownies, cookies, cream puffs. In fact you can add special candles, topper or even a bouquet of flowers to make your gifting extra special. Shall let the picture do the talking as there are no words how beautiful is this cake, I dare say the most beautiful birthday cake I ever had!

So the next test, is whether it tastes as good as it looks! I requested for double chocolate crunch which is their best selling flavour (other being Strawberry Shortcake and Hojicha White Chocolate which are also their best sellers ) and it did not disappoint, so moist n not too overly sweet. Their cakes are frosted with fresh whipped cream to ensure the softness of the texture.

There is a promo of $9.90 for delivery fee and free delivery for order above $150.

Visit www.honeypeachsg.com for all their amazing designs for any occasion! I believe you will have a hard time (like me) choosing the cake that you want to order as every cake is aesthetically designed and the taste is as good as it looks! They are also able to customise cakes and cake flavours to match your party theme.  Do check out special promotions where selected cake are released at a discount price with free cake delivery every month.
